According to the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), half of Utah students attend more than one college before graduation. Utah colleges have established procedures to support the high number of transfer students by common course numbering, dual missions, smooth transitions from Snow and Salt Lake Community college, and developing the Utah Transfer Guide: TransferUtah.org
What is TransferUtah.org
TransferUtah.org is the official online college transfer guide for Utah students maintained by the Utah System of Higher Education. The guide demonstrates how course credits earned at one university may transfer to another Utah institution. The guide determines if the class taken at the prior university will be considered at the second university, treated as an elective, or not considered at all. If you need information for colleges outside of Utah, see Collegetransfer.net.
The best time to transfer credit
There is no wrong time to transfer credit. You’ll first want to apply for admission at the universities you’re interested in transferring to, preferably at least two semesters in advance. It’s important to build in time to send and receive college transcripts from each of your universities. If you need to transfer quickly, contact your admissions office directly to see what options are available to you.
What credit transfers
The two types of credit transfers between Utah schools are equivalent and elective credit transfers. Equivalent credits transfer smoothly from course to course. Elective credits qualify as received credit hours but do not fulfill major requirements.
Create an account on TransferUtah.org
To get started on TransferUtah.org, you’ll need to create an account. To create an account you’ll input a unique username, your first and last name, your email address, and a password. Upon completing your account registration, you’ll be prompted to import your course history, develop an equivalency map, and lastly share your information with others.
Transfer credit and course search
TransferUtah.org has two ways for students to review transfer credit opportunities: transfer credit search and course search.
- The transfer credit search allows account users to input their courses to see how their credits would transfer to another Utah university. When using this feature, you can compare up to 3 colleges at the same time.
- The course search allows anyone, regardless of whether or not they have an account, to find courses based on subject, prefix, number, title or description.

College profiles for transfer students
Lastly, TransferUtah.org provides profiles of each college for transfer students. These profiles are a great tool for prospective transfer students as they offer a quick sheet of contact information for the financial aid office, transfer student application requirements, and even transfer deadlines. Each page also includes a ‘request more information’ tab, which auto populates with your profile information so you can easily send an inquiry to the financial aid department with any additional questions you may have.
Remember, transferring credits is normal. Half of Utah students do it—if you have any questions contact your academic advisor for help.
